Although neither Helen or Carl Banks were graduates of The College of New Jersey, Lawrenceville residents always admired the institution. And they wanted to help others receive a quality education. So when they prepared their will, they bequeathed their residual estate worth $510,000 residual estate to establish a scholarship fund for students from Lawrence Township students to attend at the College. Emeritus Professor of Mathematics Bill Hausdoerffer '36 has always been good with numbers. Rosemary Canning Hausdoerffer '52 was widely recognized for her creativity as an exemplary school teacher and a role model for other teachers. By creating a Charitable Gift Annuity to fund this scholarship, Bill and Rosemary will receive increased income for life at a rate greater than 10% per year for life, as well as a substantial tax deduction. TCNJ Alum Leaves $180,000 Estate Gift to Alma Mater
Helen Dickman Shaw, class of 1936, was a quiet woman with a passion for teaching. When she passed away in 2000, it was something of a surprise when the former physical education instructor left $180,000 to The College of New Jersey Foundation. Shaw graduated from Asbury Park High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from the State Teachers College, which is now The College of New Jersey in 1936. Read Story
