Assessment

Assessment of student learning at institutions of higher education is a systematic process of explicitly stating expected goals and outcomes, regularly gathering and analyzing data, and interpreting this evidence to determine the extent to which performance matches the expectation.

Through this iterative process a program determines what it is doing extremely well (so it can keep doing that) and where outcomes do not meet expectations (so it can plan for improvement, implement change for improvement and determine if the action resulted in improvement).

Benefits of Assessment

When done efficiently, such assessment can be useful both internally, for program planning and improvement, and externally, for accountability to outside accrediting bodies, state and federal legislative bodies, and the students and parents in our community.

Resources & Support

The Office of Institutional Research & Assessment will provide support to Academic Programs at TCNJ as they embark on the assessment of their transformed curricula.  Useful resources will be gathered on this web site and some will be disseminated more broadly through email and various groups and committees on campus.  Workshops, specific training and one-on-one support will also be available.

Assessment Liaisons

provide a vital link between their department/program faculty (and in some cases, Chair or Director) and the Office of Institutional Research & Assessment for shared resources, support, opportunities, and communication. They receive direct support to assist them in achieving their program assessment goals, and ensure timely submission of program assessment documents.
