About the Center

Located just soutside the capital city of Trenton, the Bonner Center cultivates the common ground that exists between the educational mission of the College and the interests and needs of the local community. It does so by creating teaching and learning opportunities that simultaneously build the capacity of TCNJ students and community organizations in Trenton and the region. In so doing, the Center puts the College's main values into action and strives to foster a more enlightened, participatory and egalitarian society.

Community Engaged Learning Program Hits Record Number

The Bonner Center's latest report for the 2007-2008 Community-Engaged Learning program includes a record figure; 97% of the first year class spent at least 8 hours addressing a local community need. These students worked on projects that focused on a range of community issues, including hunger, homelessness, urban education, developmental disabilities and race education.

TCNJ Nominated for Statewide Award

The Bonner Community Scholars program was nominated for a statewide award for its ongoing efforts to improve the section of the D & R Canal State Park that cuts through Trenton, in particular the "greenway project" near Shiloh Baptist Church. They were nominated for the Governor's Environmental Excellence Award in Environmental Education/Student Led Project.
