Press Release: November 20, 2007

Five business students at The College of New Jersey recently participated in the 2007 College Fed Challenge sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in Manhattan.  Jonathan Campos, Flamur Rama, Matt Ravaioli, Manan Sampat and Brian Yarzab formed the team under the auspices of Dr. Donald Vandegrift, Chair of Economics, Finance & International Business.

The highly motivated team first presented their case in early November, and returned to the Federal Reserve on November 16th for the 2nd district semi-finals and finals.  Accompanied by Dr. Vandegrift, they competed against teams from Iona College, Princeton University, Rutgers University, SUNY Geneseo, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.  Ultimately, the TCNJ Team earned 4th place - Honorable Mention and was awarded the Moody's College Fed Challenge Award of $5000 which includes $2000 for the team and $3000 for the School of Business.

The team from SUNY Geneseo claimed first place and will advance to the National Championship later this month, to compete against the champions from the Boston, Chicago, and Richmond Fed districts.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks which, together with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the Federal Reserve System (aka the “Fed”). The College Fed Challenge aims to educate students about the Fed and the Federal Open Market Committee, their monetary policy-setting group.
