Important Clarifications For Students in the Transformed Program
Liberal Learning Requirements
Liberal Learning requirements for all elementary and early childhood education students are outlined in the left column of the Program Planner
Writing Intensive Courses
Elementary and early childhood education students will take their writing intensive courses through their FSP and their second major.
Literary and Visual and Performing Arts
There is some misunderstanding about the literary and visual and performing arts requirement for Elementary and Early Childhood Education majors. This requirement is different from that required for other majors because of state requirements for certification:
| RAL 225, ECE 102, LIT 310 (for English majors only) or WGS 225 (for WGS majors and other interested students) counts as a LITERARY requirement. You MUST take an additional Visual and/or Performing Arts course. These courses are listed on the attached Liberal Learning Approved Courses list for Elementary and Early Childhood Education students. |
Civic Responsibilities
The community-engaged learning and the race/ethnicity
civic responsibilty requirements are met through the Elementary and Early Childhood
program. You do not have to take any additional courses. You do, however, have to
meet the GLOBAL and the GENDER requirements through additional courses, either
through your correlate courses, second major courses or through electives.
Credits Needed to Graduate
You are responsible for keeping track of the number of credits you are
accumulating. You will need 128 credits to graduate. This is especially important
for students who are transferring in 3- credit courses from other institutions. You
must make up the additional 4th credit for those courses in some way.
Student Teaching Semester
When you student teach you will take only THREE UNITS (12 credits). This means that you must make up a ONE UNIT course either by taking a 5 unit
semester or by taking a ONE UNIT course during the summer. If you take a 5 unit
semester, you need permission from the Dean's office. If you take a 3-credit course
from another institution, remember you must make up the additional credit.
If you have any questions, see your advisor.
