Teacher Certification, Graduation, and Testing Information
1. Apply for “Conferment of Degree” at the beginning of the semester in which you will complete all requirements
(through TESS)
2. Register for, take, and pass the NJ- required Praxis test
NJ requires: one specific Praxis II Content Knowledge test in all teaching areas except special education, ESL, DHH – additional tests are required in science areas.
NJ requires test #10014, Elementary Education Content Knowledge.

Be certain to list the NJ State Department of Education as a score recipient. When you receive your score report, verify that your Soc. Security number appears and is correct. Candidates must submit a copy of the score report, including sub-scores, to the TCNJ Certification Office.
3. Apply for the NJ initial teaching certificate
Undergraduates: Obtain a NJ certification application from the TCNJ Certification Office – available during the first 2months of the semester in which you will graduate.
Graduate Students: NJ certification applications are mailed to candidates who are recommended for certification by their program coordinator. (mid-semester)
Students must return the (pink) NJ certification application, fee, and Praxis score report copy to the TCNJ Certification Office. This office compiles certification materials, recommendations,etc., and submits documents to the NJ State Office of Licensing for licensure issuance (in the area of enrollment).
