The Neverending Fuel Source

Hydrogen is perhaps THE ideal fuel known to man at this time. It is a fuel source that has no chance of running out until our Sun stops producing it. There isn¹t much chance of the Sun stopping production either, at least not for several billion years. The only by-product of hydrogen combustion is water. Since one of the ways hydrogen can be produced by separating it from the oxygen atom in a water molecule, the process has the possibililty of recycling itself in a closed system.
Hydrogen does have a few drawbacks of its own. Mainly, it is a very dangerous explosive, it also is very expensive to produce and most procedures used to produce it are not very efficient at this time. When handled properly, hydrogen is perfectly safe. NASA has used hydrogen fuel cells for power for decades. They also use it as a fuel(mixed with other chemicals) for liftoff.
With more efficient means of production, the cost of producing and storing hydrogen will be reduced and it will become more practical to use. It will become a part of everyday use. Unfortunately, it probably won¹t become mainstream for well over 50 years, possibly not even until the 22nd century. The Sun will be around for a long time, probably longer than us. We should take advantage of all it gives us.
