Given the nature of the engineering curriculum, course sequence is very important.  Students are required to strictly adhere to course prerequisites.  Violations of these guidelines may result in permanent dismissal from their major.

A student may repeat any course once without seeking approval.  If a student wishes to repeat a course more than once, permission must be obtained from the chair of the department and, if applicable, the chair of the department offering the course.  Permission to repeat a major course more than once will only be granted for extenuating circumstances (e.g., illness, etc.).  When an engineering course is repeated, only the most recent earned grade is counted in the grade point average calculation although all grades earned will appear on the student’s transcript.

A student who has received two or more D’s or F’s in major courses will be subject to review by the departmental retention committee for possible dismissal from their major.

Effective Fall 2006, Freshmen, Sophomore, and first semester Juniors will not be permitted to take more than 4.5 course units unless they have a GPA of 2.75 or greater. Upper classmen can sign up for 5.5 course units assuming that they are in good academic standing.

All engineering students are required to take the Fundamentals in Engineering examination during their senior year.
