Study in the United States, Puerto Rico & Canada
The National Student Exchange (NSE) is a member organization made up of colleges and universities in the United States and its territories which provide students with the opportunity to go on exchange to a different institution of higher learning in another region of the country.
Through this exchange with the NSE Organization, a college or university is able to expand the scope of educational offerings at minimal additional cost to the student and the institution. Opportunities to study through NSE exist at nearly 200 campuses, and programs can last from one semester to a calendar year. Students may study in a variety of locations, including the U.S. Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam.

Academic Eligibility
A student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA during the school year prior to their semester at the host school, and be enrolled full time. Some programs require a higher grade point average. Students must have been enrolled for credit during at least two consecutive semesters immediately before the semester or year abroad. A minimum sophomore standing is required for eligibility.
Academic Requirements
While studying at the host campus, the student is required to obtain a minimum of 12 credits in order to retain full-time status and not lose financial aid eligibility. Courses at the host institution may not be taken on a Pass/Fail basis. As with all semester and summer off campus and international programs, grades earned while studying off campus are not factored into the student's TCNJ GPA.
Costs
Students at The College of New Jersey are eligible to study at a host school under payment plans specified by each institution. Plan A assesses tuition and fees at the in-state (resident) fee of the host campus and Plan B assesses at the rate normally paid to the students home campus.
Whether the applicant studies under Plan A or Plan B, the student is expected to pay whatever fees are assessed as a condition of enrollment (e.g., general service fee, laboratory fees, art and photography supplies, technology fees). Room and meals are always paid to your host campus. You are responsible for transportation, personal expenses, and sightseeing opportunities while on the exchange.
TCNJ students are expected to choose PLAN B placement unless it is not available at their institution of choice.
Financial Aid
In general, eligible students are awarded financial aid from the campus at which they pay their tuition and fees. For Plan A, students should list on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid the school codes for all campuses which they may potentially attend:
PLAN A - Eligible students exchanging under Plan A (tuition/fees paid to the host campus) apply to their host campuses for federally-funded financial aid. There is no guarantee that aid will be offered in your program of choice.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filed by February 15. Failure to do so may result in loss of financial aid. You must list on the form the FAFSA code for each campus where there is potential for being placed on Plan A including your home institution in case your exchange plans change. FAFSA codes are listed in the Directory side-bar area on the NSE website
PLAN B - Eligible students exchanging under Plan B (tuition/fees paid to the home campus) apply to their home campuses for federally-funded financial aid. If you currently receive College Work Study, do not expect CWS to be available while on exchange.
Application Process
Placement through NSE occurs in March. The student's first choice placement is not guaranteed, and it is advised that the student list an alternative school choice.
Once accepted by the host university, it is the student's responsibility to set up housing and register for classes. The host school's NSE coordinator must be contacted for the proper procedure.
