Microsoft Office 2007 Help
Special Note to Users:
Users that have older versions of Microsoft Office may have difficulty working with documents that are created in Microsoft Office 2007. This is due to the fact that the file format for Office documents has changed (i.e. Word files now end in ‘.docx’ not ‘.doc’.) Microsoft provides a free compatibility pack for these users that can be installed by visiting:
(Download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats)
In addition, you can ensure that files that you create remain compatible by saving them in “compatibility mode” – this can be done by clicking on the Office Button -> Save As -> Word 97-2003 Document.
Please keep in mind that not all of the advanced functions available in Office 2007 are available in compatibility mode.
Note: This compatibility pack is not supported by The College of New Jersey or Information Technology.
If you have a question regarding the compatibility pack which is not addressed by the documentation please contact Microsoft.

Known Office 2007 Issues
When a user decides to download a file containing any of the extensions ".docx", ".xlsx", or .pptx, (in some instances) the file's extension is altered to a ".zip" extension upon completion of download. To open the file properly, the following steps are suggested:
For PC users:
1) If you do not already have Office 2007 installed on your machine, you will need to download the “Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 file formats” (Please see "Special Note to Users")
2) You will need to change extension settings on your computer. Use the procedure below:
My computer>Tools>Folder options>View>
-Uncheck the option for “Hide extensions for known file types”
-Select "Apply"
-Select "OK"
3) Download the file, rename the file, remove the .zip extension and replace with the correct extension.
For example, "tcnj.zip" is renamed to "tcnj.docx"
For MAC users:
1) If you do not already have Office 2007 installed on your machine, you will need to download the “Microsoft Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 0.2 (Beta)”
2) You will need to change extension settings on your computer. Finder>Preferences>Advanced>check mark “Show all file extensions”
3) Download the .docx file, use CTRL+click>Download linked file. Rename the file (click on the file name), remove the .zip extension and replace with the correct extension. For example, "tcnj.zip" is renamed to "tcnj.docx"
