Guideline and Procedure for Computing Equipment Relocation

Last Revised: 8/12/08

The purpose of this guideline and procedure is to document the process Information Technology has developed with regard to the relocation of computing equipment on campus. This process includes the movement of computers (PC, Mac, Sun), monitors, printers, scanners, copiers and all other related peripherals.

All requests for equipment relocation must be requested using the online move request form found at http://www.tcnj.edu/~building/moving.html  and all inquires related to computing equipment relocation should go through the Office of Building Services at extension 2665.

Information Technology receives all relocation schedule information from Building Services. Information Technology’s responsibility is to unhook/rehook equipment for requests involving computing equipment.  This process is necessary even for relocation requests involving computing equipment only.

Information Technology tracks computing equipment locations in addition to other pertinent equipment information, using an asset control system. It is important that all relocation of computing equipment be scheduled with Building Services so that IT is aware of the move and can update the tracking information accordingly.

Failure to follow these procedures could result in delayed response time for service requests.
