The Jewish Student Union at the College
of New Jersey is a small organization, but is one of the most active
on campus. The Jewish community is growing quickly, yet is still small
enough to accommodate most students' needs. Between 1 and 3 events
are scheduled per week, including religious, social, and community
service activities. All activities throughout the year are
free of charge and there is no charge to join the Jewish Student
Union. Additionally, all of our activities and events are open to the public and members are encouraged to bring both Jewish and non-Jewish friends.
Religious activities include:
- Friday Night Shabbat Dinners and Services
- Havdalah Services
- Sukkah Building
- Lighting of Campus Menorah
- Tu B'Shevat Celebration
- Passover Seders
- And Much More...
Cultural activities include:
- Holocaust speakers
- Programs about Israel
- Holiday Parties
- Baking Jewish Food
- And Much More...
Social activities include:
- Bagel Brunches
- Bowling
- Poker / Game Night
- Ice Skating
- Pizza Parties
- Apple Picking
- And Much More...
In addition every March, to commemorate Jewish Awareness Month,
programming is greatly increased with to at least 3 events per week
including a keynote speaker, a family Shabbat Dinner and service,
a campus-wide community service project, social activities, and
other great programs.
The Jewish Student Union is constantly expanding in size and presence
on the campus of the College of New Jersey. With each year, programming
is greatly increased in quantity and quality.
"I've found the other students who go to Hillel events to
be very friendly and welcoming. I personally really like all of
the social programs."

"Having the common background of my Jewish faith is one of
the main reasons I enjoy 'hanging out' with my fellow JSU members.
This common background is important during my college years when
there are many distractions and directions that are available to
me. It's a relaxed atmosphere with a balance of social and religious
events. It gives me the opportunity to both renew friendships and
meet new Jewish students."
Elissa Williams, '03
"As a Jew-by-choice, I have found JSU to be a highly valuable
resource. Not just for the amount of education the organization
provides, but also the spiritual support. JSU also has so many programs
throughout each semester, from bagel brunches to off campus services,
that it provides a nice break from all the academic work. I'm really
happy with the Jewish community, albeit small, that I've found here
at TCNJ."
C. Keiko Suwa, '04
"Being Jewish is being connected to a long history and a part
of a wonderful community."
