This is Your Life on Music

Course Description

Many people spend all of their waking hours with some kind of music playing around them.  The possibility exists that a person's entire life may be 'underscored' with music.  From our individualized playlists on our iPods, to car radios, computers, to music videos on YouTube, we are constantly living surrounded by pitch, rhythm, melody, and harmony. All films, television shows and commercials have a musical score. Operas have moved into the movie theatres, and ballroom dancing has become a major audience draw for television.Using all of the types of musical encounters described, as well as others, this course will explore the elements of music and how they are used to influence the listener. Some of the influences to be explored will be reactions to characters and situations in films, television, operas, ballets and other theatrical presentations, making purchases, or to changes in mood.
