Irish Cinema

Course Description

An introduction to Irish film (as distinct from mainstream films that use Irish subjects or locales).  This seminar involves some history to contextualise subject matter, but the primary content is indigenous Irish films, beginning in the 1970s.  The essence of the course is the use of films to project Irish points of view on topics pertinent to late 20th/early 21st century citizens of Ireland.  The class breaks down into three parts: historic republicanism, nationalism, post-nationalism.
