Dr. Fienberg is an Assistant Professor of Music and the Area Coordinator of Brass Studies at The College of New Jersey where he directs the Jazz and Brass Ensembles and teaches:

 

He is a trumpeter whose experiences range from the great concert halls of Europe to the orchestra pits of Broadway and whose performance interests encompass the complete array of possibilities for a contemporary trumpeter in classical, jazz, and commercial music. 

Dr. Fienberg studied under the tutelage of Anthony Pasquarelli at Carnegie Mellon and was the protégé of Dr. Nathan Davis at the University of Pittsburgh.  He completed his doctoral research on band leader/composer Don Ellis.  Prior to his TCNJ appointment, Dr. Fienberg served as the Assistant Head of the School of Music and the Director of Jazz Ensembles at Carnegie Mellon.  During this time, Dr. Fienberg was a member of the acclaimed River City Brass Band, holding the positions of Solo Cornet and Flugelhorn.  He has frequently performed with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, The Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, and The Metro Brass Quintet.  In addition, Dr. Fienberg currently performs with The New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra and is Principal Cornet with The Princeton Brass Band. During a nine-year residence in Europe, Dr. Fienberg worked for all of the major broadcasting companies in both the Netherlands and Germany, performed at the acclaimed North Sea Jazz Festival, and worked with both the Big Band and Symphonic Orchestra of the Nord Deutscher Rundfunk. 

Dr. Fienberg has performed with such artists as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Manhattan Transfer, Natalie Cole, Barry Manilow, The Temptations, Chet Baker, Toots Thielmanns, Phil Wilson, Sal Nistico, and numerous others. Dr. Fienberg’s theater performances include CATS on Broadway and a national tour of Carousel as well as several theater productions in Germany.
