Phi Sigma Sigma’s national philanthropy is The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, which supports the The National Kidney Foundation. We have supported NKF in the past by participating in walks benefiting this foundation in New York City, Philadelphia, and right here in Mercer County. The 2005 – 2006 school year was a great year for philanthropy! At the beginning of the semester, after the horrific events of Hurricane Katrina, Phi Sigma Sigma along with the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon sold wristbands to help the community of the Gulf Coast during their extremely trying times. Each of the sisters sold purple pins to raise money for the NKF. During the Valentine’s Day season we sold carnations with all proceeds going to The National Kidney Foundation. We also held a Bowl-A-Thon at the Curtis Bowling Lanes to raise awareness and money for brain cancer through the philanthropy Angels Among Us. Our Bowl-A-Thon raised a total of $1300! We also participated in Relay for Life, along with many other campus-wide organizations, and raised money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. Not only do we raise money for organizations, we also donate other items to help the neighboring community. Sisters collected 30 dresses to help the organization Becca’s Closet, a dress bank providing dresses and formal accessories to high school girls wanting to attend their prom/homecoming, but who did not have the resources to purchase them. Finally, sisters like to help out at Trenton schools with children who are less fortunate than us and need extra help with their studies and social skills. |
