Motivation
Ron Graham
Motivation isn't guaranteed; you have to work for it. You have to continually seek it out. And you have to more-or-less depend on yourself for it.

  • Don't invest most of your karma in a single interest, especially if that interest is WORK. Having other interests will keep you from taking things too seriously.
  • Never stop looking out for mentors or opportunities to learn or make contacts. Develop and carefully tend relationships.
  • Look for opportunities for innovation. ASK for those opportunities when business is slow.
  • Decide there'll be at least one victory each day -- however small. Watch for it. Celebrate it when it comes!
  • If you're in management, VALUE motivation.
    • Ask the people on your team for ideas.
    • GIVE them SOMETHING. Even if you have no money.
    • Be informal. Be flexible. Let them be flexible too; is there any excuse for being rigid about something that's not critical?
