Open Option School of Science

Going into college knowing exactly what major you want to pursue can be a challenging endeavor. My involvement in the Open Option Science program gave me the freedom to explore different opportunities within various sciences, as well as other academic sectors that ultimately helped me find the scholastic path I wanted to follow. During my transition from the Open Option Science program to a Biology major and Women and Gender Studies minor, I was able to involve myself in many activities. I am part of the TCNJ Honor Society, Women in Learning and Leadership, AMSA, and my friends and I were also able to start two organizations on campus, Roadrunners and Best Buddies, which forms one on one friendships with intellectually disabled adults and TCNJ students. I have also worked at an orthopedic surgeon's office, volunteered in the OR, ER, and ICU at a local hospital, and just recently came back from a medical delegation in South Africa. I am currently doing biological research with a TCNJ staff member and plan on attending medical school in two years. Being part of the Open Open Science program gave me the flexibility and exposure to a variety of different academic sectors that aided in the development of my future academic goals and aspirations.
