PHI KAPPA PHI STUDENT-FACULTY RESEARCH AWARDS Each semester, The College of New Jersey’s chapter of the national scholastic honorary society, Phi Kappa Phi, offers Student-Faculty Research Awards of $400. Undergraduates from all disciplines are eligible. Its purpose is to support and encourage student involvement in serious academic research. These awards require student recipients to commit at least five hours per week for a semester, working with a faculty member on academic research. Although the work performed by student recipients may result in academic credit, the awards are determined without reference to whether a project is designed to achieve academic credit. Examples of recently funded projects include: *The Ugly Stepsister of Memory: Memory Block Effect (MBE) on memory retrieval *Gendered language of the military regime in power during Argentina's Dirty War from 1976-1983 * Cardiovascular Fitness and Executive Control: An ERP Study *Understanding the recent increase in participation by Asian-American college students in on-campus Christian ministries *The Initial Reaction: America's early response to terrorism in the Middle East *An anthology of the philosophy of William James (1842-1910) Applications for the Fall, 2007 semester are due by Friday, April 20, 2007. They must include: A. The application must follow the format below. Items 4-6 (collectively) may be no longer than 1,000 words. 1. Personal information: the student's name, major, address, telephone number, and email address. 2. Project information: project title, faculty mentor's name, faculty mentor's department. 3. A project abstract of approximately 100 words. 4. Student's course work and background: explain how previous course work and other experience (either at TCNJ or elsewhere) have prepared the student for the project. 5. Project description: discuss the goals and methodology of the project, and the specific activities to be carried out by the student. 6. Describe the significance/outcomes of the project. 7. How will the project impact on the student's further educational or career plans? B. A copy of the student's academic record from TESS. C. A letter from the faculty mentor in support of the student's participation in the project. Applications from students and letters from faculty sponsors should be sent both electronically as attachments to an email and in paper copy to Dr. Nancy Freudenthal, Office of Academic Affairs, Green Hall 212 (freudent@tcnj.edu). The electronic submission should have the subject line “Phi Kappa Phi award application.” A final report, in the form of a letter signed by both the faculty member and the student, should be submitted at the completion of the semester to Dr. Freudenthal, Green Hall 212.
