College Orientation Guide (COG) is a member of the campus community who
serves as an invaluable resource to first year commuter students and transfer
students in helping them make a successful transition to TCNJ. In addition
to meeting with students individually and in small groups, COGs assist with
all formal Transfer Orientation programs and Welcome Week. COGs serve as
role models and must display exemplary student conduct and be in good academic
standing.
Requirements:
•
Good academic standing; minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status; have completed a minimum of 12
credits at TCNJ
• Good judicial standing

Responsibilities:
•
Participate in all programs and activities for off campus students conducted
during Welcome Week.
• Provide program support as needed for specific Transfer Orientation
and Welcome Week programs assigned. Assist in checking roll and distributing
materials in sessions.
• Serve as a small group facilitator for a group of approximately 10
off campus students during Welcome Week and 5 transfer students during the
“Expectations” program.
• Participate in all training sessions for College Orientation Guides
particularly in the summer prior to Welcome Week.
• Maintain periodic contact with assigned students throughout their
first semester at TCNJ to assist with their adjustment period.
• Serve as a campus contact, liaison, and advocate for first year commuter
students and transfers students entering The College in the spring.
• Serve on various campus committees as assigned.
Benefits:

College Orientation Guides will be compensated with a stipend for services
provided during Welcome Week. All meals eaten with your Welcome Week group
will be provided. Students with on-campus housing will be allowed to move
in to their rooms early for Welcome Week. Students without campus housing
will not be provided on campus housing during Welcome Week.
