Preface
The appointment of librarians directly implements the mission and goals of The College. Thus, candidates for appointment should demonstrate competency in librarianship, in scholarship, and in meaningful service at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These characteristics are more fully in the Purposes of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at The College of New Jersey, in the College's Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletins and in the Tenure Guidelines for Librarians. The College's mission is shaped by its ideals which embrace the following beliefs:
Service to the people of New Jersey and the nation is The College's highest priority. We serve by preparing our students to be tomorrow's leaders.
The College is committed to excellence, embracing those programs and activities that we can deliver at an exemplary level.
The College of New Jersey is enriched by the diversity of its people. Diversity gives meaning to our sense of community. It enhances creativity, teaches flexibility and builds strength from difference.
A community of learners and scholars is built around high expectations. We expect all members to use their unique talents to make the college a better place.
There must be a close connection between the factors commending librarians for appointment and the student-centered mission of the College.
