Other Issues

Transfer of Credit

A maximum of six (6) graduate credits may be transferred for degree programs with less than 45 credits. Transfer courses must be applicable to the student's current program of study and have been completed at a regionally accredited graduate institution within the last six years with a grade of B or higher to be eligible for approval. They cannot duplicate any graduate or undergraduate work for which credit has been given at The College of New Jersey, and cannot have been applied to an academic degree at any other institution.

Students who wish to transfer credit must submit the following to the Office of Records and Registration: a completed Graduate Course Authorization Form pdf icon and an official transcript sent directly to the Office of Records and Registration from the accredited institution. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the academic adviser also receives a copy of the transcript and course description.

Change of Program

Students who wish to change their program must submit a completed Change of Program Form pdf icon to Global Programs. This form will be signed by the new and current program advisers, then submitted to the Office of Records and Registration. It is the students' responsibility to get their adviser's signature.

Special Arrangement Courses

Special arrangement courses are reserved for extenuating circumstances only (e.g., student has one remaining course and cannot complete it at a site). An arrangement is made for a student to complete one of the required courses through correspondence with an advising professor. The student must obtain approval from faculty and the global programs so that registration, contract, payment, and grades may be monitored appropriately. The student then must register for the specific course and submit payment. Course work must be issued on a timely basis. Students are allowed only one special arrangement course during their course work with TCNJ.

Independent Study

Students who wish to supplement departmental course work by investigating a particular topic may do so under the direction and guidance of a faculty member who is considered an expert in the field. A final paper reporting the findings of the study must be submitted to the faculty member. Independent Study courses are not substitutes for an existing graduate course.

Transcripts

Students who need to obtain transcripts of credit may contact the Office of Records and Registration (fax: 609/637-5184) or order a copy through TESS. When faxing your request, include your student identification number, mailing address, and signature. In addition, please indicate that you are an international student and the specific address to which they should be sent. Transcripts are free of charge and students may request up to five at a time.

Certification

Students are only eligible for certification in the specific program in which they are enrolled at The College of New Jersey. State certification is not automatic upon program completion. Appropriate certification application materials must be completed and submitted to TCNJ certification office.
