Applying to the Honors Program
Many students join the Honors Program when they begin at the College. Here is the process: The Admissions Office forwards to the Honors Program the list of applicants who EITHER scored 1350 or higher on the SATs (this will probably change with the expanded SAT) OR graduated in the top 5% of their high school classes. These students are then invited to apply to the Honors Program. From the applicants we select about 125, or about 10% of the total entering class. In recent years, about half of the first-year students entering the college have been eligible to apply; about 300 have actually applied; about 125 have been selected.
Other students (including those who were not accepted before classes began or who did not apply) join the Program at various points in their college careers. Applicants can pick up application materials in the honors Program Office in Green Hall 109. To apply, current students must of a GPA of at least 3.4 and two recommendations from TCNJ professors.
If you participated in an Honors Program at another college, we will accept up to two units of Honors in transfer. We will also need to see your transcript from the other college with the Honors courses clearly marked. Otherwise, the process is the same as for a current student.
The Application
The application asks for a short essay and two recommendations from teachers (high school teachers for entering first-year students, college teachers for current students and transfers). Application materials may be picked up in the Honors office (Green Hall 109) or requested by phone (609.771.2034) or email ( ciotti@tcnj.edu ).
