Priority Housing
Definition
"Priority Housing" means that a student in a specific leadership position on campus who applies for housing is guaranteed to make the 1st housing lottery cutoff, as long as they properly complete all standard housing lottery procedures. "Priority Housing" does not guarantee a specific space or even preferred choice during room selection. It only means that no matter what lottery number that student receives, s/he will be allowed to select a room on campus. A student receiving "Priority Housing" MUST still follow all the same housing procedures as any other student applying for housing.
Eligibility
Certain student leadership positions have the opportunity to utilize a "Priority Housing" space on campus. Advisors of organizations know which positions, if any, in their organization carry "Priority Housing". It is the responsibility of the student organization to provide their advisor with a roster immediately following elections which indicates those students receiving guaranteed housing. The advisor must submit this list to the Manager of Housing Operations of the Office of Residential and Community Development for review by February 26th, 2007.
Organization whose elections fall after the Housing Lottery Process must:
- notify the Manager of Housing Operations that they will be having later elections,
- identify the students who are running for election who did not already acquire a space during the housing lottery, and
- immediately following elections, submit a roster to their advisor who will forward it to the Manager of Housing Operations.
Those students who are elected to positions which grant "Priority Housing" and who did not already make a lottery cut-off, (since this will have happened before their elections) will be placed on the Fall 2007 housing waitlist and given priority as spaces become available.
Organizations who do not currently have "Priority Housing" or wish to alter the number of spaces may make written requests via a letter from their president and advisor to the Manager of Housing Operations & RHA by Fall Finals week for review in February.
