Come out to one of our November Info Sessions to learn about a Residence Life position for the 2007-08 academic year!  We will walk you through the application process and give you a chance to talk directly to staff members in the positions already.  The more you know about the positions, the better you are likely to do during the application process and the Spring interview days.

The Department of Residential Education and Housing employs over 200 professional, graduate and undergraduate student staff:

Professional Staff

  • Professionals interested in applying to become a member of TCNJ's nationally and regionally recognized team should see current postings in the Chronicle of Higher Education and visit the job posting areas on the web sites of ACPA, and NASPA. Visit the The College's human resources website to see current job openings and descriptions.  You may also mail you cover letter and resume to our address with attention to the Professional Staff Selection Chair.

Graduate Staff

  • All graduate student positions in the Office of Residence Life are coordinated via the Student Affairs Graduate selection process available via the Graduate School Office.  Please do not contact our office directly regarding these positions.

Undergraduate Staff

  • Most undergraduate student positions are filled by a yearly process called Student Staff Selection. Applications are usually due in mid-December with interviews taking place in early February. Check for postings around campus about next year's Student Staff Selection process. Reapplication for current HA, CA, CC, ARD staff for 2008-09

Professional Staff


Director of Housing Operations

The Director of Housing Operations provides overall direction and leadership for the residence life program. The Director supervises the professional and student staff within the residential areas and coordinate community development efforts within the residence halls while envisioning the long-term goals and planning directives for the department. Additionally, s/he serve as liaison to various offices on campus, and oversee transfer student housing.

Director of Residential Education

The Director of Residential Education is a senior member of the Residential Education and Housing team, specifically responsible for the development and implementation of a residential education curriculum that supports student learning and success and the creation of living-learning communities. The Director of Residential Education focuses on the development and delivery of a residential experience that supports the quality of life and personal development of all residential students.

Manager of Assignments

The Manager of Housing Assignments manages the housing lottery system, meal plan selections, and contract releases. The Manager of Assignments also keeps the SIS system and rosters up to date.

Area and Residence Hall Directors

The Area Directors for ResED (ADs) serve as Assistant Directors and each provide overall direction and leadership for the residence life program within each of three residential areas; First Year Experience, Sophomore Year Experience, and the Upper-class residence area. They supervise professional Residence Directors, coordinate community development efforts within the area, and oversee area judicial processes.

The six Residence Directors (RD's) are full-time, masters-level professionals responsible for the administration and operation of one or more residence halls, including supervision and training of graduate and undergraduate staff, program planning, and administration of the judicial system. Residence Directors typically advise residence governments and coordinate major programs.

Central Office Secretary

The Central Office Secretary is the major support staff for the office.

Area Secretary

The Area Secretary provides administrative support to the Area Director and the Residence Directors working with first year students.


Graduate Staff

There are three Graduate Assistants (GAs) working in Residence Life:


Programming Graduate Assistant

The Programming GA primary role is to coordinate major residentially based programming and community development initiatives in addition to program assessment.

Assignments Graduate Assistant

The Assignments GA primary role is database management, office operations, and room change processes.

Off Campus Properties Graduate Assistant

The Off-Campus graduate assistant provides leadership in the area of community development through programming. This GA is primarily responsible for supervising the TCNJ Off-Campus Housing properties and staff in addition to overseeing the House Assistant requirements.


Undergraduate Staff

Several types of positions with a variety of necessary skills and training are available annually.


Assistant Residence Directors

An Assistant Residence Director (ARD) is an undergraduate staff member primarily concerned with the physical operations of a residential facility. The Office Assistants and Hall Security Workers working in our residence halls are directly supervised by the ARDs. The ARD works in conjunction with the Residence Director to oversee building and facilities issues, supervise staff, and maintain keys and hall offices.

Community Assistants

The community advisors (CA's) and community coordinators (CC's) are upper-class students who are selected for their high level of leadership, enthusiasm, and concern for students. These undergraduate student staff members serve as leaders in developing community within their area of responsibility, help to resolve student and community conflicts, and organizing community efforts in developing floor or house programs.

House Assistants

House Assistants are upper-class students who serve as leaders and role models for the residents of either one or two houses in the Townhouse Complexes. House Assistants also staff the hall offices in the Townhouses and provide emergency lock-out service during the night hours.

 

Office Assistants

Office Assistants staff the hall offices in each residence hall from 8 am until 4 pm. Office Assistants distribute mail, packages, keys and equipment and provide high quality customer service to all residents.

Hall Security Workers

Hall Security Workers man the desks at the entrances to each residence hall from the hours of 8 pm to 2 am every night. Hall Security Workers verify the identities of everyone who enters the residence hall, register and keep track of all guests and assist Residence Life staff in upholding all the policies outlined in the Guide to Residence Living.
