Assistant Director

The Area Director (AD) for the Sophomore Year Experience Area provides overall direction and leadership for the residence life program designed for sophomore year students. They supervise the Residence Directors, coordinate community development efforts within the area, serve as hearing officers for the Student Life judicial process, and oversee the budgets for their area of responsibility. Area Directors also serve on various departmental and campus wide committees or task forces.

The SYE Area Secretary provides administrative support to the Area Director and the Residence Directors working with sophomore year students.

Residence Directors

Residence Directors (RD) are full-time, masters-level professionals responsible for the administration and operation of one or more residence halls, including supervision and training of graduate and undergraduate staff, program planning, and administration of the judicial system. Residence Directors also typically coordinate major programs within their buildings.

 

  • The SYE Area Director and Area Secretary work out of offices located in the Decker Hall main lobby.
  • The Decker and Cromwell Halls Residence Director works out of an office adjacent to the Cromwell Hall office.
  • The Centennial, Allen, Brewster, Ely and Norsworthy Halls Residence Director works out of an office on the first floor of Allen Hall immediately next to the Hall Office.

Undergraduate Student Staff

Assistant Residence Directors

An Assistant Residence Director (ARD) is an undergraduate staff member primarily concerned with the physical operations of a residential facility. The Office Assistants and Hall Security Workers working in our residence halls are directly supervised by the ARDs. The ARD works in conjunction with the Residence Director to oversee building and facilities issues, supervise staff, and maintain keys and hall offices. Within the SYE area, there are four Assistant Residence Directors; one for each of the four buildings, Decker, New Res, Eickhoff, and Allen/Brewster/Ely. ARDs can be reached through their respective hall offices.

    • Residence Hall Offices are staffed from 8AM through 4PM by Office Assistants. They are then staffed from 8PM through 12AM by Community Advisors as part of their evening on call responsibilities. At the end of their office shift, the hall office phone is forwarded to their room until the hall office is reopened at 8AM by the Office Assistants.

Community Advisor

Community Advisors (CA) are undergraduate staff members that work to fulfill the Office of Residential and Community Development's belief that living in residence provides the student with an essential part of their education. The CA works under the direction of the Residence Director in fulfilling a role extending into all aspects of the student's physical, social, emotional, educational, and psychological well being.

Hall Security Worker

Hall Security Workers (HSW) are supervised by the Assistant Residence Director for their building. Responsibilities of the position vary by area but generally include verifying that students entering a given building are residents of said building, signing in guests, confronting and documenting policy violations, and assisting in fire alarms and other emergency situations.

Office Assistants

Office Assistants (OA) report to the Assistant Residence Director for their building. This position serves to facilitate the daily operation of the office in each residence community. While specific responsibilities may vary from building to building, general responsibilities include clerical responsibilities, helping to open and close the residence halls, conducting key inventories and signing out spare resident keys, sorting mail and distributing packages, and serving as a source of information for the residents.
