How can I eliminate the need to carry cash, a checkbook or call my parents to wire me money every week?
The TCNJ ID electronic wallet program that functions through your college identification card! The TCNJ ID is a privilege available to every member of the TCNJ community. All you need to do is add money to the account in order to activate the privilege. It can be used at every dining location on campus. You can even pay your telephone bill, buy tickets to an on-campus event , buy books for class, and make a purchase from a vending machine.
What makes using the TCNJ ID more advantageous than using a credit card?
There are no financial charges, annual membership dues, or interest rates when you use the electronic wallet system. You do not have to wait for monthly statements letting you know what your remaining balance is, because you can check your balance at any time on the web, at the value transfer station (VTS), or by speaking to one of the College's Client Service Specialists in the Office of Student Accounts.
Transition from LION Card to TCNJ ID
Why is The College of New Jersey switching to a new TCNJ College ID card?
Protecting individual’s private information is a responsibility The College of New Jersey takes very seriously. As a result, we are making changes in the Card Access system. Over the past few years, TCNJ has worked to remove SSN as an identifier in our systems wherever possible. The last phase of this project will require the College to distribute new ID cards to every campus community member and is scheduled to take place next semester.
What will be different in the new TCNJ College ID card?
The current TCNJ College ID card contains your social security number embedded on the magnetic strip. The new TCNJ College ID card will replace your social security number with a randomly generated 16 digit account number similar to a credit card on the magnetic strip. This account number will be used for financial transactions, meal plans and hall and parking access.
Will I need a new TCNJ College ID card?
Yes. All returning students for the fall 2005 semester will be required to exchange their TCNJ LION card for a new card by October 31. 2005. After October 31, the TCNJ Lion card will no longer function for parking or hall access, meal plans and Gold Club transactions. All other campus members will be required to exchange their TCNJ LION card for a new card by October 31, 2005.
How will I receive my new TCNJ ID?
Starting June 5th 2005, a cardholder may voluntarily come to Student Accounts Office in Green Hall room 119 to exchange their TCNJ LION card for a new card. We recommend that Faculty and Staff exchange their ID card between June and July 2005. New or existing photos may be used. There will be distribution events on campus starting September 14 and ending October 26, 2005. More details will be available starting August 25, 2005.
Will there be a charge associated to the new TCNJ College ID card?
No. There is no charge for the production of the new TCNJ College ID.
Will the College still request my Social Security number (SSN)?
Yes, the College will still be required to collect individuals' SSNs for reporting and taxation purposes.
How will the College restrict future uses of SSNs?
Access to and use of SSNs will be strictly limited by the College policy. SSNs will only be available to authorized College employees who are required to use them in completing the business of the College.
How far back will the conversion go?
All current employees will be included in the conversion. Students currently enrolled will be converted.
Will the College standardize a process for identification?
Yes. All new Web applications or services and forms created will use the individuals UNIX login.
How will retirees be affected?
Only those retirees who currently have a TCNJ ID card will be issued a new card. Authorized College employees will be able to look up a TCNJ ID when required for a retiree.
