Protecting Your PrivacyFor years, Social Security Numbers have been an effective way for the College to uniquely identify individuals. However, the recent increase in identity thefts and privacy issues related to Social Security Numbers has become a major concern for campus communities. Over the past few years, TCNJ has worked to remove the Social Security Number as the unique identifier in our systems wherever possible. Protecting our faculty, staff and student's private information is a responsibility The College of New Jersey takes very seriously. As a result, we are making changes in the card access system that will enhance the security and privacy of the Lion Card. The last phase of this project will require the College to distribute new identification cards to every campus community member and is scheduled to take place during Summer and Fall 2005. Once this re-carding is complete, individuals will be able to conduct financial transactions using a randomly generated 16-digit number, which will be a significant improvement in privacy protection. |
