About ADEP

The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is not exempt from the typical problems associated with substance use, misuse and abuse. The College of New Jersey is an educational institution committed to maintaining an environment that enables community members to fully enjoy the benefits of an optimal learning experience.

The Alcohol and Drug Education Program (ADEP), was fully implemented at The College of New Jersey in September of 1990. The program was funded by a federal FIPSE (Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education) grant. Presently, the program is partially funded by a grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

ADEP's primary goal is to provide educational support services to the campus community and to create an atmosphere in which alcohol use is not the central focus of all social events. The program stresses the creation of an awareness of choice, personal responsibility and understanding of consequences in deciding to use alcohol and/or other drugs.

Through this educational program, students are assisted in understanding their responsibilities as well as the consequences of choosing to use alcohol and other drugs and how their decisions may impact their academic achievement and future career goals.

The ADEP Office at TCNJ is a member of the New Jersey Higher Education Consortium on Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention and Education.
