The Fourth Annual Summer Civil Engineering Camp, July 13-17, 2008


bridgeRising high school seniors are invited to apply for an intensive five-day summer Civil Engineering Camp offered by the Civil Engineering program at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and sponsored by the Construction Industry Advancement Program of New Jersey (CIAP).

The intent of the camp is to motivate the most creative minds of a new generation of prospective civil engineers to become leaders for the construction industry in New Jersey. The program aims to create a community of students who participate in and contribute to an intensive academic experience delivered by distinguished educators and professionals.

Camp participants will be introduced through a five-day residential academic experience to the exciting field of civil engineering and will attend mini-courses on topics not traditionally taught in high schools such as bridge engineering, surveying, soil and concrete materials, hydrology, and more.

The participant will work with civil engineering students and professors, and interact with professionals from the construction Industry.


A Typical Day at Camp Includes:

  • Interesting civil engineering sessions each morning and afternoon
  • Hands-on surveying and laboratory testing of civil engineering materials facilitated by TCNJ faculty and students.
  • Site visits to construction projects and meeting with practicing engineers
  • Fun evening activities

During this summer camp, a prominent guest speaker from the Construction Industry Advancement Program will give a special presentation about their organization and the construction industry.


Who Should Apply?

Eligible camp participants are rising high school seniors who rank at the top 10% of their class, have an interest in engineering, and have successfully completed three years of college prep mathematics (preference will be given to those who have completed pre-calculus).


Important Information:

  • The camp will be held at The College of New Jersey, Ewing, NJ. Participants stay in a TCNJ air-conditioned residence dorm and are chaperoned by civil engineering students.
  • One session will be held: July 13-17.
  • The total cost is $310 and covers tuition, room and board, and entertainment expenses.
  • Camp participants must provide their own transportation to and from Ewing, New Jersey.

  • Early application deadline: April 11, 2008. Early applicants will be notified by April 29, 2008.
  • All applications must be received by May 2, 2008. All applicants will be notified by May 16.
