Registering on the Web (TESS)
TESS can be accessed directly at http://tess.tcnj.edu
You may use TESS to see what classes are being offered and whether they are open or closed. The class schedule on TESS will always be current. To check the class schedule on TESS, follow the directions above. If you have a question about class availability, check TESS first.
- Once you are into TESS, select the "Student Records, Bill and Personal Information Access" Function .
- Fill in your Student ID and PIN number
- Make sure that the term selected is "SUMMER"
- Select Add/Drop Classes and follow the easy directions.
- Once you have registered, you may add and drop as often as you like.
- You may also use the Conditional Add/Drop to instruct TESS to drop a class ONLY if it can add you into another, different class.
Because of various College restrictions, you may not be able to use TESS to register for some classes such as Independent Studies, Internships, and certain restricted courses, even though they appear on TESS. You must register for these courses in person in The Office of Records & Registration.
You can also use TESS to view and print your own schedule and pay your bill.
TESS Help Line Available 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Registering In-Person
Except for instances mentioned below, students should not plan to use in-person registration to register. Please note that in-person registration assistance will be available from 8:30am to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Office of Records & Registration, Green Hall 112 for students with non-web accessible courses.
When TESS will not accept a particular class registration
Registration for classes such as Independent Study and other variable credit courses, as well as closed classes, cannot be accomplished via TESS. If TESS rejects your registration for one of these courses, you will need to obtain the appropriate signature approvals and register in person in the Office of Records & Registration.
Independent Study and Internship
Students should see the Department Chairperson to complete an Independent Study or Internship Enrollment Forms. Eligibility requires Junior standing and a 2.5 GPA. Students must register for Independent Study in person by bringing their Enrollment Forms to the Office of Records and Registration, Green Hall, Room 112. TESS cannot be used to register for Independent Study or Internships. Registrations for Independent Study and Internships will not be accepted without a completed proposal.
Restricted Classes
Graduate/Undergraduate Classes
Special permission is required for undergraduates to enroll in graduate courses and vice-versa. Forms are available in the Graduate Studies Office, Green Hall, Room 109. TESS cannot be used to register for courses outside of the student's academic career.
Exceeding Maximum Permitted Class Load
TCNJundergraduate students are limited to twelve semester hours of summer study. TCNJgraduate students are limited to nine semester hours. TESS will not permit registration for more than 12 credit hours (9 hours for graduate students) in Summer School. Written permission from your Department Chair or Graduate Coordinator is needed. Bring that permission to Green Hall Room 112.
Because enrollments are restricted by class size, students are encouraged to register as early as possible. Historically, some summer courses close due to full enrollments. Courses will also close due to low enrollment, therefore, it is important to register early.
All students are advised they should choose their summer course selections with care and deliberation and after consultation with an academic advisor.
- AFTER THE DROP/ADD PERIOD THERE ARE NO REFUNDS . It is the students' responsibility to register for and appropriately withdraw from courses. Drop/Add days are the FIRST TWO DAYS of the session, NOT the First Two Classes
- NON-ATTENDANCE IN A COURSE DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A "DROP" OR "WITHDRAWL" FROM THE COURSE .
