Women’s Edge Coalition Global Trade Internship Summer 2007

The Women’s Edge Coalition, a dynamic and cutting-edge international women’s organization seeks an energetic person to join its close knit team as the Summer 2007 Intern in the Global Trade Program. The Global Trade Program works to ensure that the needs of women living in poverty around the world are addressed through U.S. and international trade policies to enable them to access the economic benefits of global trade.

The primary responsibility of the Trade Intern will be to conduct research and analyze U.S. and multilateral trade policies and their impact on women in developing countries to support the program’s advocacy projects. Working closely with the Senior Vice President for Global Trade, the Trade Intern will also identify and implement new advocacy strategies to further the overall objectives of the program. Day-to-day activities will include some administrative work, participation at briefings, lectures, and special events around Washington, D.C., tracking of pertinent U.S. legislation, and writing of policy briefs for use within the Coalition. The Trade Intern will be expected to take on considerable responsibility for a specific project to be selected in conjunction with the Senior Vice President.

It is critical that applicants have an interest in international trade and development issues. While previous experience with international trade and economics would be helpful, it is not necessary. Applicants should have research experience, preferably on issues related to international women’s issues, development, or economics; very strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to juggle multiple projects and work independently; and an ability to synthesize technical materials. Rising college seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in a related field strongly preferred.

Please email resume, cover letter and professional writing sample by April 1st to the address below. Please be sure to indicate clearly that the application is for the Trade Internship.

This is an unpaid internship starting May 2007 and ending at the end of August 2007. We are an equal opportunity employer. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply. This position will remain open until it is filled.
