Women’s Edge Coalition International Women's Outreach Internship Summer 2007

Reach out to women’s organizations around the globe. The Women’s Edge Coalition is a dynamic and cutting-edge women’s organization based in Washington, DC. They advocate for policies that support women worldwide in their actions to end poverty in their lives, communities and nations.

This summer offers three exciting tracks for interacting with women’s organizations in the developing world. The International Outreach intern can help:

* Analyze the results of a large-scale email consultation with women’s organizations that we conducted during the spring. This “listening project” – to hear and understand the perspectives and priorities of organizations that represent poor women worldwide – will provide input to guide our policy work over the coming years.
* Support our work with partner organizations in Honduras and Morocco; and
* Maintain communication and correspondence with women’s groups around the world.

Working under the direct supervision of the Director of Outreach, the intern will provide essential assistance on all these projects. Tasks may include researching and corresponding with women’s organizations, writing, and receiving, recording and systematizing data. The intern may also assist with other work related to international women’s organizations, such as producing an outreach newsletter.

This is a fast-paced, substantive position, and the intern will assume high levels of responsibility. About 75% of the intern’s time is spent on substantive work, 25% on administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

• Commitment to women’s rights, justice, and economic development.
• Academic concentration in a related field. Master’s level students preferred.
• Outstanding verbal and written self-expression in English.
• Fluency in French or Spanish a plus.
• Demonstrated attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and database software.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Flexibility, sense of humor, and ability to work under pressure.

Time commitment: 20 hours a week.

Dates: May/June – August/September 2007

Please email your resume, a one-page writing sample, a cover letter that conveys who you are and why you’re interested in and qualified for this position and two work- or study-related references to the address below. Use “International Outreach Internship” in the subject line.

This internship is unpaid. There is a small stipend to help cover daily expenses. We are an equal opportunity employer. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply. This position will remain open until it is filled.
