Out-of-State Merit Scholarships

TCNJ is excited to be one of the few public institutions to offer merit scholarships to high academic achievers from outside the state of New Jersey.  Typically, out-of-state scholarship recipients have been in the top 10% of their high school class with an average SAT score of 1250 or higher.

However, TCNJ takes pride in its holitsic approach to the out-of-state scholarship process, taking into consideration more than just quantitative measures.  TCNJ is looking for students who show talents beyond those evidenced on a high school transcript or standardized test score... students who intend to actively contribute to both the academic and social community on campus.

Therefore, all eligible students will be mailed a supplemental scholarship application after they have been accepted for admission by TCNJ.  This application will ask the student to provide additional information about their interest in The College of New Jersey.  The scholarship application, in conjunction with the student's academic record and extracurricular experiences, will determine the student's scholarship award.

Out-of-state scholarships are good for eight consecutive semesters of study at TCNJ, provided that the student maintain a 3.0 GPA while at The College.

Students eligible for merit scholarships are strongly encouraged to complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A student’s ability to pay for college does NOT impact awarding of scholarship dollars.
