SUBJECT:	2008 Energy Savings Program

In consultation with Local 2364 of the American Federation of Teachers, Local 1031 of the Communication 
Workers of America, and Local 195 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, 
The College of New Jersey will once again conduct an Energy Savings Program during the calendar year 2008.

The following seven holidays are designated as energy holidays for 2008:

	Martin Luther King, Jr. Day		Monday, January 21
	Lincoln’s Birthday			Monday, February 12
	Washington’s Birthday		        Monday, February 18
	Good Friday				Friday, March 21
	Columbus Day			        Monday, October 13
	Election Day				Tuesday, November 4
	Veteran’s Day				Tuesday, November 11

Eligible employees who work all seven energy holidays will earn 10 ½ days of Energy Savings Program leave 
time (1 ½ energy leave days earned for each energy holiday worked).  Four of the leave days shall be applied
to summer closures; one shall be applied to the day after Thanksgiving, and five to the winter closures, 
as indicated below:

The winter break will commence on Thursday, December 25, 2008 through Friday, January 2, 2009.  
Employees do not have to use earned energy leave for December 25th or January 1st, as they are 
designated holidays.

The remaining one-half day of earned energy leave may be taken at another time during the 2008 
calendar year, subject to the approval of the employee’s supervisor.  All earned energy leave 
days must be utilized within the 2008 calendar year.

This schedule applies to members of the above-mentioned bargaining units, as well as to non-unit 
supervisory and administrative staff.  Employees who did not work on the designated  Energy 
Savings Program holidays, may choose to apply vacation, administrative leave, or other earned 
compensatory time to the designated summer and winter Energy Savings Program closures.

The College of New Jersey Library, Athletics Recreational Center, Conference and Meeting Services, 
Brower Student Center, Residence Halls, and Campus Police Office will remain open for service during 
the summer Energy Savings Program Fridays noted above.

Regular and supplemental payroll checks normally due on the Fridays noted above will be available on 
Thursdays between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. in the Payroll Office in Room 102 of the Administrative Services 
Building.  Exceptions to the dates listed above paychecks dated Wednesday, December 24, 2008 will be 
available in the Payroll Office on Wednesday, December 24th from 8.30 until 1:00p.m.  Supplemental 
and Student payroll checks dated January 2, 2009 will be mailed to the home address prior to January 2, 2009.
