Local 2364 Survey of Faculty and Student Work in Transformed Courses    ( Local 2364 Home Page )

During the time curriculum transformation has been under discussion, many questions have been raised and statements made about the nature of the transformed courses our students would take after the curriculum is changed. Various terms such as “enhanced” and “improved” have been used to describe these new courses which are intended to provide a better learning experience for our students. Debate about the amount of extra time and effort required to teach these courses has continued since this issue was first raised and has intensified since the Sep 30 memo from Provost Briggs.

Of particular concern to many faculty is the reference in his memo to "enhanced efforts", suggesting that faculty will be expected to do more scholarship/service/mentoring when the 3 – 3 teaching load is fully implemented and, additionally, justify what they do by submitting both an annual plan and final report to the Administration.

This anonymous survey has been designed to only address the issue of the amount of additional student and faculty work associated with transformed courses. Please feel free to add any comments or questions which you feel are appropriate.

Call X 2783 if you have any questions about the survey. Thank you for providing information which will be helpful in working toward a solution to problems related to transforming our curriculum.
