The Operant Chambers

 

Below is a picture of an operant chamber in the Alcohol Lab.  These are Med-Associates operant chambers that are programmed in the Med-PC language.  The chambers are used for studies in which rats' lever pressing is maintained by access to alcohol or other solutions, such as water or sucrose.

 

Notice the two retractable bottles on either side.  These bottles contain solutions and are inserted into the chamber after the animal presses the appropriate lever.
