Class Agents
What is the Class Agent program?
The Class Agent program at TCNJ is an exciting new plan, the intent of which is to increase attendance at alumni events, encourage participation in annual fund giving, and to put active alumni back in touch with one another. Once a year, a representative from each graduating class from 1942-2007 will write a letter addressed to their classmates. Those celebrating reunions will be asked to write an additional letter encouraging classmates to attend Reunion Weekend and participate in Reunion Giving.
What do the letters say?
The contents of these letters will vary based on the individual’s approach, and current class agents have philosophically expounded the goodness of charitable donations, shared funny and sentimental college anecdotes, and some have simply asked their readers to attend an upcoming alumni event and make a gift. Ultimately, the letters do not need to follow any specific form and provide the class agent with an opportunity to be creative and use their own personality to help their alma mater.
Why should I care if people donate money to TCNJ?
Alumni participation is very important to any college or university, even state institutions. People should be aware that schools like TCNJ are only assisted by the state, not fully funded. Alumni contributions are instrumental in maintaining the scholarship program at the college, and without the Annual Fund, today’s students would not be able to earn a first-tier degree at an affordable tuition, the way TSC and TCNJ alumni have for so many years. Now, with the state budget dwindling, it is more important than ever for alumni to support the current students with a donation.
Also, don’t forget that publications like US News and World Report use alumni participation rates when they establish their rankings of colleges and universities. TCNJ is currently the highest ranked public institution and 4th overall in the Masters North category. With an improvement in alumni giving we could easily ascend to number one. A top ranking would lure even more highly qualified freshman to the school, and increase the value of the diplomas of our alumni.
Sending a letter to all of my 1,500 classmates seems like a lot of work…
Don’t worry, the Alumni Office takes care of the postage and distribution of the letters. All the class agent has to do is write the letter and mail it to us; we take care of the rest!
Are there any perks to being a Class Agent?
Outside of the opportunity to help TCNJ students and get in touch with old classmates,
there will also be different events held to thank all of the Class Agents. For example, class agents will be invited to a campus performance and reception this November.
How can I get involved?
