Types of Gifts

There are several different types of gifts you can give to the foundation:

Bequests

One of the most significant gifts you can make to The College of New Jersey Foundation is through a bequest in your will. Your estate will receive a charitable deduction for the value of the gift at your death. Learn More

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity provides an annual lifetime income in exchange for a gift of cash or securities. Fixed payments are based on the age of the beneficiaries. A charitable gift annuity can be created for the lifetime of one or two persons. You may choose to receive payments immediately or defer them to a later date and gain a higher interest rate. A charitable gift annuity may provide you with tax savings and reduce estate taxes. Learn More

Charitable Lead Trusts

To set up a charitable lead trust, you transfer cash or property to an irrevocable trust. The trust income is donated to The College of New Jersey Foundation for a specific period of time. At the end of this period of time, the principal is returned to you or to those you have specified. Learn More

Charitable Remainder Trusts

To create a charitable remainder trust, you transfer cash or appreciated property to a trust to either be administered by The College of New Jersey Foundation as your trustee, or a trustee of your choice. Charitable remainder annuity trusts provide an annual lifetime income at a fixed dollar amount. Charitable remainder unitrusts provide a life income based on a fixed percentage of the trust value. A charitable remainder trust pays an income to you and/or your chosen beneficiary for life or for a specified term of up to 20 years. The remainder is designated for The College of New Jersey's purposes. You may be able to avoid capital gains taxes and reduce income and estate taxes through the development of a trust. Learn More

Matching Gifts

Many corporations support charitable organizations by matching gifts (usually $1 for $1!) made by their employees, and sometimes their employees' spouses. Ask your Human Resources Department if your employer matches employee donations to charitable organizations. If you work for a company that has a matching gift program, your donation to The College of New Jersey could have a double impact! Learn More

Retirement Plan Gifts

One of the simplest ways you can make a gift to The College of New Jersey is by making The College of New Jersey Foundation the beneficiary or joint beneficiary of your retirement plan. Your gift will avoid estate and income taxes. Learn More

Real Estate Gifts

A real estate gift removes property from your taxable estate. If your home has appreciated in value, you can deduct the market value of your gift and avoid all capital gains taxes. Learn More
