TCNJ Alum Leaves $180,000 Estate Gift to Alma Mater

Helen Dickman Shaw, class of 1936, was a quiet woman with a passion for teaching.  When she passed away in 2000, it was something of a surprise when the former physical education instructor left $180,000 to The College of New Jersey Foundation. Shaw graduated from Asbury Park High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from the State Teachers College, which is now The College of New Jersey in 1936.

She cherished her fond memories of the College. In college, she was active in the psychology club, the women's physical education club, Gamma Sigma Sorority and was the manager of the field hockey team.
