Goal Statement

Looking back at the goal statement around which I structured my teaching style, I can honestly say that my vision for teaching has evolved dramatically. My initial goal of teaching was to teach the student and not the material. This goal of ensuring that I encourage my pupils to become competent student that will be able to dissect and retract information from a text outside the class rather than students that memorize the information that is presented in the class. This goal is still the cornerstone of my teaching philosophy, but the time I have spent teaching has given mea different outlook of this goal.

Thought my teaching experience I have gain a better appreciation as to the amount of work needed to accomplish this goal. Form the lesson, learned during my teaching experience; I have been able to adapt my teaching goals to make them better suited to the classroom. With this new appreciation of the intricate nature of the classroom, my goal has become more centered on helping the students get out of their daily monotonous routine through interactive lesson that will spark their imagination. I want the time spent in my class to be a period of exploration that will lead to the internalization of the information.

With this experience under my belt I can say that my initial goal was both realistic and well within my realm of achievement. My initial goal for teaching was very important to my present teaching philosophy because it provided me with a goal upon which I could develop my teaching style. Having had a first hand experience in the classroom, I now have a better idea of what is possible in the classroom.
