One Question/One Answer

Continuing the assessment work begun with the exploration of One Question in the 2005-06 academic year, each undergraduate program at TCNJ is again requested to develop one assessment question, related to a learning goal in its learning goal matrix, to be answered by the end of the 2008-09 academic year. The deadline for the submission of One Question is 10/31/2008 and deadline for the Answer is 5/29/2009.

Alternative to One Question for programs that are having a TCNJ Program Review during AY 2008-2009:

Programs that are preparing for a TCNJ Program Review may choose to develop a detailed assessment plan as part of their program review document instead of completing a One Question. This assessment plan will replace the plan currently available online (http://www.tcnj.edu/~assess/docs_amm.html ). The program will then collect data as described in the plan on an annual basis, analyze the data, consider appropriate program changes, and submit their results to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. One Question 2008-09

Submission

Departments should submit their One Question for the 2008-09 academic year to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment as soon as possible, but not later than October 31, 2008. Questions may be submitted by email to assess@tcnj.edu or by completing the on-line form:

Format

A standard format need not be followed, but all documents submitted as the One Question for 2008-09 should clearly indicate:

• the learning goal (from the programs learning goal matrix - if the department would like to submit a revised learning goal matrix, please email to assess@tcnj.edu);
• the question;
• how the information gleaned from the project will be used within the department;
• the plan for answering the question (method);
• the expected and/or hoped for answers to the question (hypothesis);
• the program or programs being assessed (could be a single major or all majors within a department, depending upon the question);
• assessment liaison (with pertinent contact information) within the department.
