Constitution Of the
AZ Seven-Year
Medical Society
(AZ SYMs)
Preamble
To foster the unity and
increase awareness of the seven-year medical program.
ARTICLE I
Name of the Organization
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be AZ Seven-Year Medical Society (AZ SYMS).
ARTICLE
II
Purpose of the Organization
Section 1:
The purposes of the AZ Seven-Year Medical Society are to unify the students involved in the seven-year combined medical program, to create a support network for students involved in the program during and beyond their years at The College of New Jersey, and to solicit the advice of alumni of the seven-year medical program.
Furthermore, this organization serves to inform students not involved in the seven-year medical program about its goals and particulars, and to assist in the recruitment and advisement of applicants to the seven-year medical program. In addition, AZ SYMS shall establish outreach programs for high school students that would increase awareness of the seven-year medical program.
Finally, AZ SYMS shall assist pre-medical students of
The College of New Jersey who wish to graduate in fewer than four years, as well
as provide guidance to students of TCNJ who wish to apply to
ARTICLE III
Qualifications on Membership
Section 1: It is hereby acknowledged that the AZ Seven-Year Medical Society ensures that the policies and practices pertaining to the membership of our organization do not discriminate based on sex, race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, marital status, handicap, age, sexual orientation, and lifestyle. It is also hereby understood that the only exemptions to this claim may be due to the sex or religious composition of our organization, which is allowable by law.
Section 2: Membership is extended, but not
limited, to students in the seven-year medical program who will attend
Section 3: Membership is open to all who are interested in the purpose of this organization.
ARTICLE IV
Officers of the Organization
Section 1: The elected officers of this organization shall be:
President
Treasurer
Secretary
Global Studies Chair
Research/Internship Chair
Freshman Representative
Historian
Section 2: Term of office shall be one year, beginning in April. The Freshman Representative shall be elected in December. However, if an officer is placed in a position sometime throughout the year, the term of office is only until the next election.
Section 3: It shall be the duty of the President:
To represent our organization to student bodies on and off campus, as well as to the general public; to call to order and chair all club and executive meetings; to vote only in the event of a tie; to delegate or assume unmentioned responsibilities; to oversee all major aspects of this organization.
Section 4: It shall be the duty of the Treasurer:
To handle all financial transactions concerning the organization; to serve as SFB liaison; to promote fundraisers and charitable events; to attend to financial matters as so deemed necessary by the Executive Board.
Section 5: It shall be the duty of the Secretary:
To take accurate minutes at club meetings and distribute them to members; to organize the publicity material of the Society; to preside over meetings in absence of the President; to notify members of changes to schedule; to be responsible for committee correspondence to Executive Board. The secretary may take minutes at committee meetings, if necessary.
Section 6: It shall be the duty of the Global Studies Chair:
To gather and disseminate global studies information from the Global Studies department, Society members, and alumni; to assist members of the organization with their study abroad plans.
Section 7: It shall be the duty of the Research/Internship Chair:
To gather and disseminate information regarding research, internship, and clinical opportunities.
Section 8: It shall be the duty of the Freshman Representative:
To serve as a spokesperson for the freshman class; to serve as a liaison between the freshman class and the executive board.
Section 9: It shall be the duty of the Historian:
To record AZ Seven-Year Medical Society events and meetings in such mediums as photography and place these in appropriate scrapbooks as well as to keep a detailed history of the organization and its events.
Section 10: Positions stated in Article IV, Section 1 constitute the Executive Board.
BY-LAWS
ARTICLE I
Membership
Section 1: No formal application is necessary and anyone can join at any time throughout the academic year.
Section 2: Types of Membership include active membership and inactive.
a) Active members are members who attend at least five club meetings or events a semester. Attendance will be taken at every club meeting and event.
b) Inactive members are any members who fail to meet the above criteria.
c) Inactive members are not eligible to vote or run.
Section 3: There are no limitations on membership.
Section 4: There shall be no termination of membership. If a member is not fulfilling his/her duties, he/she shall be deemed inactive. However, if an Executive Board member is found to not fulfill his/her duties by active members and/or the remainder of the Executive Board, the Executive Board has the ability to remove that individual by a 2/3 vote of the members at a meeting and elections shall be held to fill that position. The same procedure shall be upheld if a member of the Executive Board resigns.
Section 5: Elections: positions are open to all active members.
ARTICLE II
Committees
Section 1: The Executive Board is comprised of those members stated in Article IV, Section 1. They will meet at the discretion of the President.
Section 2: The Freshman Orientation committee will be open to all volunteers with the purpose of organizing program information and answering any questions about the goals of the seven-year medical program. The committee will also be responsible for heading the Freshman Orientation Weekend for students accepted to the seven-year medical program.
ARTICLE III
Financial Provisions
Section 1: AZ Seven-Year Medical Society events shall be funded by the Student Finance Board, fundraising, and alumni donations.
Section 2: No fines or membership fees shall be
assessed.
ARTICLE IV
Meetings
Section 1: Members will be notified of club meetings by the Secretary via email.
Section 2: Meetings shall only be held when there is a quorum of the Exec Board (3).
Section 3: General meetings will be held at least monthly. Executive Board meetings will be held weekly to biweekly.
ARTICLE V
Faculty Advisor(s)
Section 1: Our advisor shall be a faculty member from an academic department which hosts a seven year medical program.
ARTICLE VI
Amendments
Section 1: Any amendments to the constitution must be ratified by a 2/3 vote of present active members.
Section 2: Amendments shall be submitted to the Student Government Association for approval.
