7-year Articulation BS/OD Degree with SUNY State College of Optometry

SUNY, State College of Optometry (Manhattan, New York) and TCNJ have a formal articulation agreement allowing freshman applicants to be accepted to both the optometry school and TCNJ (as BIOA, biology majors) and to earn both the BS from TCNJ and the OD degree from SUNY in seven years. Class rank, high school GPA, SAT scores, and a combined TCNJ/SUNY interview are used as selection criteria. Successful applicants spend their first three years at TCNJ. Maintenance of a 3.2 overall GPA, and in the science-math prerequisite courses, an Optometry Aptitude Test (OAT) score of at least 320, and a final acceptable interview at SUNY are the retention standards for the program. Students who meet the retention standards spend the last four years of the program at SUNY. Students in the program graduate from TCNJ in August at the end of their first year at SUNY.

Students in the biology liberal arts major (BIOA) can apply to the program during their freshmen year. Admission will be based in part on their college performance, academic credentials, combined TCNJ/SUNY interview and ability to finish TCNJ three year program, three years from their entry into TCNJ. Transfer student are also considered on an individual basis. Retention standards are as noted above.
