Student Organizations

Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society

The purpose of Tri-Beta is to function both as an honor society and a service organization for students in the biological sciences. Its main objectives are to promote scholarship in the biological sciences, to promote dissemination of biological knowledge and to encourage research.

American Medical Student Association

The American Medical Student Association aids and encourages students interested in careers in medical, veterinary, dental, and health-related fields such as optometry, physical therapy, pharmacy, podiatry, and the basic medical sciences. The club works in concert with the Medical Careers Advisory Committee (composed of six faculty) to provide information about applications, pre-professional exams, (e.g. MCAT, DAT, OAT, and GRE), interviews, admissions, relevant part-time and co-op employment, and financial aid. It organizes guest lectures, offers field trips, and fosters cooperation among those students considering professional careers.

Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS)

The purpose of TCNJ MAPS is to provide under-represented students
interested in the medical field with adequate knowledge, skills, and
experiences that are both prerequisite and affiliated with the
requirements necessary for admission into medical schools. We also
provide pre-health information to all other pre-health students. The
organization strives to achieve the previously mentioned by offering to
its members, but not limited to, the following activities: panels of
medical students and doctors, access to regional and/or national
conferences, medical school trips, mentorship through medical students,
shadowing with doctors, and facilitating access to community service.
TCNJ MAPS endeavors to educate our members, the campus community, and when
possible the surrounding community on issues related to the medical field
and health care in minority communities and elsewhere through Health Fairs
and Conferences, such as, Health Disparities Outreach Fairs, Pre-health conferences, and Health Professional School Admissions Fairs.

Biological Society

This organization is open to all majors. Information concerning the latest developments involving biological issues are provided to members through guest speakers, lectures, videos, and discussion groups. Club membership is determined by attendance at meetings and involvement in club activities. Activities include whitewater rafting, trips to area museums, informational parties, picnics and other recreational activities. Biological Society also hosts the annual "Meet the Professors" event.  Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis to prepare for club activities. The organization also facilitates interaction between students and faculty on an informal basis and introduces students to postgraduate options in the biological field.
