Blue Key was founded at the College of New Jersey in May 1976. It is a national honor society of students, faculty and administrators who have demonstrated leadership, academic excellence, and extensive involvement in the campus and surrounding communities.

In order to apply to Blue Key, students must be nominated by a faculty member, by a student organization president, or by a Blue Key member.  Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements, which include a 3.5 GPA, the completion of 45 or more credits, and active involvement in the campus and/or community. Applications for membership are accepted in the spring semester.
