ASK QUESTIONS!

Begin by asking yourself questions... LOTS of them!

  • When was the last time you found yourself completely engrossed in a project or activity?
What part(s) of that was engaging?
  • Who do you want to work with?
  • Where do you want to live?
  • What does begin a success mean to you?
  • What do you like/not like to do?
  • What really matters to you?
  • What interests you? Really interests you?
  • Do you like to read, solve problems, develop new ideas, build things, perform calculations, organize activities, talk with people, lead programs or people, etc?

EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONS

It's your job to get honest with yourself and curious about your world. Find out who you are!

Go try something - anything! If you're wondering what comes next: Absolutely anything you want! Your goal is to collect OPTIONS!

Take Some Risks!

Risk... an internship

Risk... a shadowing experience

Risk... putting your in a situation where you don't know what you're doing

Risk... talking with someone you don't know. Find out what they do and how they got there.

Risk... joining an on-campus club or even just participating in an activity being hosted by a club.

Risk... becoming a leader of a club or organization.

Risk... taking the time to explore the world of possibilities out there!

EXPLORE CAREERS

1. Take a look at your options and select your top three or four choices.

2. For each one, answer the following questions:

  1. What is appealing to you about this major?
  2. What are your doubts and/or questions?
  3. How can you get answers to your questions?
  4. What do you need to know in order to either select or eliminate this choice?

3. Take the next step to get your questions answered. RESEARCH!

4. Once you have collected the information you need, take a step back to assess how you feel about this information. Talk with a friend, adviosr, or career counselor.

1. If you could choose any career(s), without considering the challenges that might arise, just based on your gut, what would that be? Select up to three to explore.

2. For each career you've selected think about the following:

  1. What draws you to this career?
  2. What makes you say, "Yes, I could do that but...?" What makes you hesitate? Look closely at these hesitations. Are they obstacles to be overcome?
  3. Do you need more information regarding any aspect of the career or the details of pursuing it?
  4. What would it take for you to be able to run with this career or eliminate it?

3. List the steps you'll take to get the answers to your questions.

Fact: On average, people change careers 3-5 times over a lifetime.
