Frequently Asked Questions about Education Interview Days

Do I need to participate in all four EID interview days?

No. You may participate in as many (4) or as few (1) interview days as you choose. Your decision regarding the number of days you participate should balance your need to maximize your opportunities with your student teaching (or other) commitments.

I am interested in teaching/counseling in the School District X. District X is scheduled to interview on three different dates.   Should I submit my resume for each of the dates?

You may submit your resume for each of the dates. School District recruiters may represent different schools in their district or they may want you to be seen by different recruiters. Recruiters may also have reasons for not interviewing you more than once in which case they will not include you in more than one interview schedule.

Should I submit my resume to a district that has not requested candidates from my discipline? (E.g. Elementary Education)

The Office of Career Services does not restrict students from submitting to any district and all submitted resumes are sent to each district. Districts can choose to consider unsolicited resumes or not. However, some districts, such as Ewing, prefer not to receive "unsolicited" resumes. We usually indicate in LionsLink if districts do not want unsolicited resumes.

What percent of candidates receive job offers through EID?

There are no statistics on this; however, school districts throughout New Jersey, New York City, Eastern Pennsylvania, and even Hawaii repeatedly come to EID at TCNJ to recruit candidates stating that they have been very successful recruiting here in the past.

I am earning a Masters Degree in Teaching, but most of my work experience is in business. How do I address this in my resume?

It is important that any candidate changing career fields interpret the relevance of their previous career field to their new career field. This holds true in education as well. It is not sufficient to submit the same resume, or the same descriptors for an education position as you would have in business. As you prepare your skill descriptors for your previous positions, ask yourself, not what did I do there, but what did I learn from this position that will make me a better educator. In addition, consider including a "Summary of Skills" section that enables you to communicate what you see as the most valuable elements of what you have gained from all of your experiences. Be sure to list your Teaching Intern Experience(s) on your resume. Remember, despite how proud you are of your previous career, these internship experiences are your most relevant experiences to teaching and should be feature more prominently than your business experience. To assist you, Career Services has sample resumes on website.

Keep in mind that Career Services will critique one resume from each EID participant. For candidates who are changing careers, we do give feedback on your success in translating to the new career field.

How many school districts participate in EID?

In 2006, approximately 135 different school districts visited the campus for a total of 150 visits.

What disciplines are schools looking for?

This varies from district to district and school to school within a district. When you click on the "details" link, you will see specific disciplines that are needed by each district or school. Historically the most "popular" disciplines are math, science, Special Education and Spanish.

What is the difference between uploading and submitting a resume in LionsLink?

One advantage of the LionsLink program is that you decide who receives your resume. You can upload up to ten resumes into this system allowing it to act as your electronic filing cabinet, but uploading does not put your resume in the hands of the recruiters. To forward your resume to a school district you must submit one of those uploaded resumes to the individual district or school. To submit, be sure to select and click the resume submit button within the details of the job announcement. When evaluating whether you want to submit your resume, remember YOU MUST INTERVIEW, if you submit your resume and are preselected.

How do I know if I am preselected for an interview and how do I sign up for an interview time?

To check if you have been selected for an interview:

  • Sign into the system using your username and password during the date range prescribed on the job description page.
  • Select LionsLink.
  • Select the Box entitled Personal dates ( Lower Right ).
  • Select the drop down menu and select "Interviews I have been Preselected or Alternate For."

If selected, the district or school name will appear. Click on the name, scroll down and select a time. If you are the last person to sign up, you must accept that remaining time slot. If you encounter scheduling conflicts, contact Career Services immediately. This does not cancel your interview obligation.

Where are interviews held?

All EID interviews are held in room 202 in Brower Student Center.
