Directions:

  1. Get into groups of three and decide who is going to be the artist, the writer, and the performer.
  2. Get supplies from teacher. Make sure you have: a large sheet of paper, markers, and a picture of a product.
  3. Work together to make a commercial and an advertisement for the product that you have in front of you. Each person is required to do the assignment below.

    1. Artist: You and your group have to come up with a poster/billboard that persuades customers to buy the product.  Remember this is the first time anyone has ever seen this product.  Make sure your drawings capture the right images to sell your product.

    1. Writer: You and you group have to come up with an original slogan or motto that will be attached to your product (example: “I’m lovin’ it” from McDonald’s).  This will be incorporated into your poster and commercial. So, again make sure it sells your product.

    1. Performer: You and your group will have to make a commercial and present it to the class.  Although your whole groups will be up there with you, you will be the main spokesperson.  Write down what you will be saying for the commercial and you will have to act it out in front of class.

  1. After each performance the class will vote to see how many people would by the product.

  1. Make sure the whole group works together to sell the product.  You will be graded on:
    1. How much detail was put into the poster.
    2. The persuasiveness of the slogan.
    3. How much creativity was put into the commercial.

Final Essay: Letter to President Roosevelt
Due Date: November 30th, 2006

Assignment:

Write a 2-3 page letter to President Roosevelt as if you were alive in
1932. Pretend you are either, a farmer, an unemployed factory worker, or
a woman in either the city or a farm. In the letter include the
following:
A.     How life used to be in the Roaring Twenties (Untouchables Essay)
B.     How it changed after the Stock Market Crash of 1929
C.     What conditions and hardships you are currently living in and how you
are surviving (Dust Bowl or Survival Techniques Essay)
       D. What you want President Roosevelt to do about the conditions.
You can use all the information given out during the lessons. Use
worksheets, handouts, movies, notes, and pictures we used in class to make
your letter sound real.  Tell Roosevelt how you use to live, how it
changed after the crash, how hard life is without work, and how you expect
him to change it.  Make sure you include all the points above in your
letter. You can combine your essays, but make sure they flow. Good Luck!
Examples:
A.     If you choose to use your Roaring Twenties essay you can combine it
with the survival techniques, but make sure you include detail.
B.     If you choose the farm essay make sure you include live before the Dust Bowl, during the Dust Bowl,
and what your family did after.
