TCNJ HOLIDAY SPREADs CHEER ON CAMPUS, IN COMMUNITY

The 17th annual TCNJ Holiday, one of the College’s largest community service projects of the year, was held on December 6, 2005.  The event, which was sponsored by the Student Government Association in partnership with the College Union Board and Leadership Development Program, began on the steps of Green Hall, where representatives from various religious and multicultural organizations spoke about the many holidays that are celebrated by students across campus.

ChoirFollowing a benediction from Father Joe Hlubik of Catholic Campus Ministries, Andrew Croft from the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship spoke about Christmas; Kamaria Byrd from the Black Student Union spoke about Kwanzaa; Misbah Mahmood from the Islamic Society spoke on Eid;  Kimberly Ducusin from Mu Sigma Upsilon spoke on Filipino Christmas traditions and Simbang Gabi; Jon Michael King from the Asian American Association spoke on Pasko; Heema Tambakuwala from the Asian American Association spoke about Diwali; Eliana Reyes from Unión Latina spoke about Christmas in Latin America, and Bethany Shifrin from the Jewish Student Union spoke on Chanukah.  Courtney Scholz sang “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and the outside portion of the event ended with a tree lighting ceremony.

CraftersAfter the tree lighting, the event moved to the Brower Student Center, where various organizations worked to make holiday crafts to be donated to the Greenwood House, the Rainbow House, and the senior citizens of Ewing Township. The audience also enjoyed holiday musical performances by the Gospel Choir, Mike Heitmann, Dave Salge, Dave “Piano Dave” Schlossberg, and the Trentones.

"I think that what’s so special about this event is that it unites the whole campus.  Every holiday and tradition has its spotlight," said Jackie Kotler, SGA vice president of community relations. “The crafts are our way of giving back to the community.”
